Faces of Massachusetts Agriculture
Jay Healy
Hall Tavern Farm, Charlemont
Jay Healy and his family have owned and operated Hall Tavern Farm since the early 1900’s. Today, the 475 acres of woodlands have been transformed to an economically and environmentally sustainable forestry operation employing innovative forest management practices that protect the natural habitat and optimize more profitable ways to operate. In 2002, Jay received a grant from the Massachusetts Farm Viability Program through the Department of Agricultural Resources that enabled him to expand his business operation. Each year, Jay targets 10 to 15 acres of woodlands for forest improvement. Jay Healey was a former state legislator and agricultural commissioner. Devoting now the majority of his time to his business, the Hall Tavern Farm is proud to have received state awards for sustainable forest management.
