Jan and Dale Wentworth

The Warren Farm & Sugarhouse, North Brookfield

Jan and Dale Wentworth began farming in 1993 when they purchased The Warren Farm & Sugarhouse in North Brookfield. Their focus has been on preserving the past by educating customers about heirloom crops, heritage animal breeds, and maple sugaring. Jan is currently president of the Massachusetts Maple Producers Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Association of Roadside Stands.

Through the Department's Farm Viability Enhancement Program, Jan and Dale recently built a commercial kitchen in which they are processing value-added products, some of which are now being exported with assistance from the state's export program. The Wentworths won the "Outstanding Product Line" award at the 2001 Massachusetts Marketplace Festival. Jan created and coordinates the "March is Massachusetts Maple Month" campaign.
