Avian Influenza Disease Alert

Low Pathogen Avian Influenza, a respiratory disease of poultry, turkeys, gamebirds and waterfowl has been diagnosed in a commercial egg laying facility in the state of Connecticut.

As of March 20, 2003, the state of Massachusetts is:

• Implementing increased biosecurity at rendering facilities, and other poultry and poultry related activities

• Developing protocols for the importation of poultry into Massachusetts based on ongoing disease surveillance
