The function of the Council is to encourage and assist in the adoption of retired greyhounds or greyhounds that were bred for racing but never qualified through the administration of the Greyhound Trust Fund (Chapter 10 Section 65). The Council is responsible for adopting rules and regulations for the disbursement of the trust fund that has been established by Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 10 Section 65. Pursuant to Chapter 128A, Section 5, the Trust Fund receives one-half of one percent of the live handle of greyhound racing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Grants AwardedThe Greyhound Care and Adoption Council has previously awarded grant funding to non-profit organizations who applied and were determined to be eligible for the funding. The funds were intended to assist the organizations with expenses associated with housing, feeding, spay/neuter, veterinary care, vaccinations, and producing educational materials for potential greyhound adopters, leashes, greyhound appropriate collars, and jackets.
