Organic Cost Share Program
Organic Farming and Processing in Massachusetts
There are some 105 farms and close to 100 processors that are certified to the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) standards in Massachusetts. Each year the numbers have been increasing. The growth in the category continues because, if given a choice, many consumers choose locally grown, organic produce.
Cost share for organic certification:
The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources works with the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service to reimburse certified organic farmers up to 75% ($750 dollars maximum) of the total certification cost. Funds are available to farms that are inspected and certified and/or inspected and receiving renewal of certification. For more information, contact Mary.Jordan@state.ma.us or Ellen.Hart@state.ma.us 617-626-1742. Check with Ellen for information regarding cost share for organic food processors as well.
