Twenty-four workshops are being held statewide over the next few months to help schools, daycare centers and school age child care programs understand and comply with the provisions of the Childrens and Families Protection Act. The workshops are being conducted by the University of Massachusetts with assistance from the Department of Food and Agriculture. The Childrens and Families Protection Act, which was signed into law last year, greatly limits the use of pesticides in schools, daycare centers and school age child care programs. The law requires that parents and staff be notified in writing of all outdoor pesticide applications; and mandates that a comprehensive integrated pest management (IPM) plan be developed and submitted to the Department of Food and Agriculture by November 1st, 2001. The workshops are designed for personnel responsible for pest management such as facilities and grounds managers, maintenance directors and custodial staff. Pre-registration is necessary. A pre-registration form is available at the Department of Food and Agriculture website: www.massdfa.org/pesticides. For more information contact Reginald Coler at the University of Massachusetts at [PHONE NUMBER] or visit the Department of Food and Agriculture web site. The workshops are being held in the following towns:
