Pesticide Enforcement Alert
Army Worm Control - 07/31/01

To: Farmers growing hay
Subject: Application of Warrior or Lorsban to hay fields
From: Jonathan L. Healy, Commissioner
Date: July 31, 2001

Last week the Department notified farmers growing hay regarding the application of Warrior and / or Lorsban for the armyworm outbreak. The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U. S. Food and Drug Administration have provided the Department with the following determination:

1. It is permissible to feed hay or haylage and mixed stands of alfalfa treated with Warrior and / or Lorsban only to your own animals on your own farm. However, it is recommended that you wait for another 30 days before you feed the treated forage to animals.

2. Hay or haylage and mixed stands of alfalfa treated with Warrior and / or Lorsban cannot be offered for sale, sold, or transported to another farm which you do not operate and / or otherwise moved into interstate commerce. Any such products will be considered adulterated feeds.

3. Hay or haylage and mixed stands of alfalfa treated with Warrior and / or Lorsban may also be used as bedding for your animals on your farm only.

The Department is still waiting for a determination on small grains treated with Warrior and / or Lorsban.
