AEEP Report 2000
DAR home> AEEP

The Agricultural Environmental Enhancement Program was expanded by funds from DAR for a total project budget of $350,000. They provided funding to 33 farms to implement water quality improvement projects. There were three criteria for selecting farms to participate in the funding:

  1. the farm location
  2. the existence of a conservation plan, and
  3. the environmental benefit of the best management practice to be funded.

Priority was placed on protecting ground and surface water supplies. Protecting other resources such as shellfish beds and trout streams was a second priority.

Whether or not a farmer had a conservation plan was a second criterion. A farmer qualified if he or she has an updated (within the last five years) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Farm Plan or had completed the conservation plan worksheets in the On-Farm Strategies for Protecting Water Resources workbook and sent it to DAR for review.
