Agro-Envronmental Technology Grant ProgramProjects by TopicCRANBERRIESCape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association, Wareham - Economies of Scale and Renovation Efficiency Study for Massachusetts
Cranberry Industry. This study proposes to address two of the most common
ways growers can minimize their cost of production and maintain their viability
1) evaluate the size of cranberry operations in relationship to profitability
and 2) determining when it is time to renovate bogs to improve efficiencies
and yields. $10,000 - 2001. Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association, Wareham - "Feasibility Study for Alternative Cropping Systems for Cranberry Bogs or Uplands Part I: Off Season Strawberry Production". This project will evaluate the potential of dayneutral strawberries as a alternative or supplemental crop that can be grown either on current cranberry bogs or on associated uplands. $10,144 - 2001 Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association, Wareham - "Economies of Scale and Renovation Efficiency Study for Massachusetts Cranberry Industry". This study proposes to address two of the most common ways growers can minimize their cost of production and maintain their viability 1) evaluate the size of cranberry operations in relationship to profitability and 2) determining when it is time to renovate bogs to improve efficiencies and yields. $10,000 -2000 Cape Cod Cranberry Growers Association and UMass, Wareham - "Frost Protection Guide For Massachusetts Cranberry Production". A fact sheet regarding frost management for Massachusetts cranberry production will be produced and distributed. $4,750 -1997 Cranberry Hill Farm, Plymouth - "Introducing Organic Management as an Acceptable Option for Commercial Cranberry Growers". This project will develop a vehicle for sharing information about organic growing methods and begin to organize a structure for cooperative handling, processing and marketing of organic cranberries. $7,900 -1999 Cranberry Institute, Wareham - "Use of Lignocellulosic Materials as Pesticide Residue and Phosphate Sorbents: Phase 2". These experiments will design and construct a filtration system for field trials with the objective of maximizing the capacity and efficiency to absorb pesticides and phosphates. $13,450 -2001 Cranberry Institute, Wareham - "Use of Lignocellulosic Materials as Pesticide Residue Sorbents - Phase 1". The goal of the project is to develop environmentally friendly filtration systems to remove trace amounts of toxic compounds in waste water. $9,500 -2000 Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. and UMass Cranberry Experiment Station. "Nitrogen Fertilizer Use and Management In Cranberry Systems". A fact sheet on soil monitoring for seasonal nitrogen, needs and a Best Management Practices Guide regarding nitrogen management in cranberry production will be produced and distributed. $10,000 -1996 UMass Cranberry Experiment Station, East Wareham - "Economic and Biological Aspects of Composting Leaf Trash from Cranberry Production Systems in Massachusetts". The purpose of this project will be to evaluate several basic composting procedures for their effectiveness in breaking down cranberry leaves. A Best Management Practices fact sheet will be produced for growers. $10,000 -1998 Weston Cranberry Corporation, Carver - "Automated Weather And Watering Systems In Cranberry Production". This project will develop a secure, cost effective and reliable network to monitor and automate cranberry bog irrigation pumps and monitor weather conditions from remote locations, using a PC and Palm Pilot or other wireless devices. $17,064 -2002 |
