Education in the Classroom, at Farms, and at Public Events – This project proposes to conduct extensive promotion with a week-long “school to farm” program. Two new environmental based educational units, one for the elementary level and one for the middle school level (Grade 2 and Grade 7); and a technology based packet for High Schools will be developed. A versatile interactive exhibit board for display and promotion purposes will be designed and built. A certification for farms that participate in educational programs meeting the specific criterion will be developed. Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom, Seekonk - "Agriculture in the Fast Lane". A comprehensive educational manual for farmers/agriculturists and teachers will include information for visiting the classroom and visiting the farm. $14,800 -2001 Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc., Seekonk -"Applying and Promoting Environmentally Sound Advanced Agricultural Technology on Farms and in the Classroom". Advanced level workshops and agricultural resource materials will be developed for high school students and educators. $15,000 -2000 Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc. Reading - "Expanding Resources to Educators". Distance education using satellite hookup, a comprehensive plan for website networking, teacher workshops, classroom visits and more are elements in a outreach strategy to ensure widespread use of a newly released video and accompanying set of teacher plans which will educate young people about the agriculture industry. $14,800 -1999 Massachusetts Agriculture in the Classroom, Inc., Reading - "Massachusetts Agriculture Awareness Video". A teachers guide and video will be produced which will stress the environmental and economic benefits of local agriculture. The video will highlight all Massachusetts agricultural commodities, open space preservation, conservation, sustainable agriculture and new technologies currently in practice. $14,800 -1998 Massachusetts Cider Guild - "An Educational Project for Cider Mill Certification". A project to educate cider producers and town Board of Health inspectors on up to date processing methods and to create a certified label. $3,000 -1996 UMass, Department of Entomology, Amherst - "Design and Evaluation of Apple IPM Displays at Massachusetts Farmstands and Pick-Your-Own Orchards". The projects seeks to develop a tool for agro-environmental education in Massachusetts apple orchards and to test its impact on orchard customers. $5,400 -1997 |
