The schedule provides specific dates and times for each training.

COMMBUYS Purchasing Training for Eligible Non-Profits ILT (3 hours)

This training is for all Eligible Non-Profit staff responsible for the purchasing of goods and/or services from statewide contracts.  Participants will learn to use COMMBUYS to search for items/services and create a request using a Requisition document.  Attendees will learn to search for specific items/services using a line item or a G2B punch-out catalog and add to Requisition.  The Requisition, once approved, is converted to a Purchase Order.  The scope of this class also provides an introduction to COMMBUYS, new terminology, systems navigation, and policy. This 3-hour hands-on training will provide an overview and practice of COMMBUYS purchasing for non-profit organizations.

The Non-Profit Purchasing Program was developed by the Massachusetts Operational Services Division (OSD) to allow eligible non-profit organizations to use Statewide Contracts to purchase commodities and services. COMMBUYS, OSD's market center, makes purchasing even easier, providing online access to thousands of products and services on Statewide Contracts. Now, eligible Non-Profit Purchasing Program organizations can use COMMBUYS, too. COMMBUYS is free to use and OSD guides you through the set-up process. This 30-minute webinar will provide an overview of COMMBUYS purchasing for non-profit organizations.

Essentials of State Procurement (1 Day)   

This one-day class introduces procurement professionals to the Operational Services Division (OSD) and how the state does procurement.  The class provides an overview of the policy and procedures around purchasing and procuring goods or services in the Commonwealth. In addition, participants will have an opportunity to experience hands-on COMMBUYS navigation on how to search for state contracts, goods and services, as well as bids, contracts, and vendors. Strategic Sourcing Certificate Program (5 Full Days)

The Strategic Sourcing Certificate Program (SSCP) is designed to educate Commonwealth Procurement Professionals with strategic sourcing fundamentals that provide them with the skill and knowledge to conduct effective procurement on behalf of their agencies. As an operational model, the 7-step Strategic Sourcing framework promotes more efficient sourcing as well as offer success in meeting the Commonwealth’s socioeconomic goals. The program is structured in a sequence that enables the learner to build knowledge component by component through attending weekly classes.  Please note that attendance is required at all 5 classroom sessions to receive a certificate. The SSCP offers practical knowledge and skills that participants may begin using immediately. Here are a few areas covered during the program:

  • Learn the industry-wide best practices involved in strategic sourcing and conducting an effective procurement
  • Learn state policies and procedures, and the tools available to you

UNSPSC for Buyers (1.0 hour)

When creating and posting bids in COMMBUYS, proper commodity code selection is fundamental to maximizing vendor quote responses. OSD’s UNSPSC* for Buyers webinar – a one-hour, online class – reinforces the importance of commodity codes and demonstrates how to search for and add suitable codes to your bid solicitations in COMMBUYS. Time also will be allocated to review how to locate and notify vendors that match UNSPSC selections. The session will close with a question and answer period.
Participants will receive information to connect to their training session via email.


* The United Nations Standard Products and Services Codes (UNSPSC) is a global products and services classification system that OSD utilizes to notify businesses about opportunities posted in COMMBUYS.
