Commonwealth Choice pretax health insurance open enrollment for non GIC-eligible state employees in HR/CMS agencies and UMass will take place May 1 to May 31, 2013 for coverage effective July 1, 2013.
You must elect coverage between May 1 and May 15 to have your premiums paid entirely through pretax payroll deduction. Elections made between May 16 and May 31 require the first month’s premium to be paid on a post-tax basis.

*Coverage periods are based on Commonwealth Choice receiving a full month’s premium prior to the coverage Effective Date. Health coverage will generally not be effective until at least 45 days after enrollment due to billing cycle time and payroll deductions. To guarantee coverage, if you elect coverage between May 16 and May 31, you must submit the first month’s post tax payment directly to Commonwealth Choice. Commonwealth Choice will send you a confirmation indicating your monthly premium due. Please specify the account number and the employee reference number to apply payment appropriately and timely.
