GENERAL INFORMATION
EXAM COMPONENTS & TIME LIMIT
The written examination has a time limit of 3 hours and 15 minutes and consists of 3 components: the Ability Test, the Work Styles Questionnaire and the Life Experience Survey. As a general guideline, you should take approximately 15 minutes to read all of the instructions in the exam booklet (about 5 minutes for each set of instructions that precede each of the 3 components). You should spend about 2 hours on the Ability Test, and approximately 25 minutes on the Work Styles Questionnaire and 35 minutes on the Life Experience Survey. Please note that these are just suggested times. You can divide the 3 hours among the 3 components as you wish. Please pace yourself accordingly. You may wear a watch to keep track of the time.

FOR ALL APPLICANTS CLAIMING VETERAN OR DISABLED VETERAN STATUS
If you are claiming status as a veteran or disabled veteran and it has not be approved by this office for a prior exam, please refer to our Verifying Veteran's Status & Preference area in the Veteran & Active Duty Military Applicant Information section of our website AND bring the required documentation with you to the site on the exam date.

For experience credit eligible applicants with prior employment or experience as a Firefighter or in a related title:
1. Complete claim form AND bring the completed form along with required supporting documentation to the exam site on exam day.
OR
2. Submit the completed form with required supporting documentation within 7 calendar days (May 1, 2010) by certified mail, with return receipt requested to the Human Resources Division, Civil Service Unit, One Ashburton Place, Room 301, Boston, MA 02108. Documents postmarked after May 1, 2010 will not be reviewed by this office.
IMPORTANT WRITTEN EXAM SITE NOTIFICIATION INFORMATION
Notices to Appear for this examination will be mailed the week of April 12, 2010, which will include your assigned written examination site. You will be able to get a copy of your notice on Friday, April 9, 2010, by logging into the Human Resources Division . You will need to register as a first-time user if you have not already created an account for SOARIS. Please follow the instructions on how to Get a Copy of Your Notice to Appear for a written Exam.
