For experience credit eligible applicants with prior employment or experience as a Correction Officer I or in a related title:

1. Complete claim form AND bring the completed form along with required supporting documentation to the exam site on exam day.
OR
2. Submit the completed form with required supporting documentation within 7 calendar days (March 31, 2012) by certified mail, with return receipt requested to the Human Resources Division, Civil Service Unit, One Ashburton Place, Room 301, Boston, MA 02108. Documents postmarked after March 31, 2012 will not be reviewed by this office.

This Correction Officer Examination Preparation and Practice Booklet has been developed to help you prepare for the written portion of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Correction Officer Examination. This booklet covers material for the written examination only.
 

Important Exam Site Notification Information for Applicants

Notices to Appear for this examination will be mailed the week of March 9, 2012, which will include your assigned examination site. You will be able to get a copy of your notice on , March 9 , 2012, by logging into the Human Resources Division . You will need to register as a first-time user if you have not already created an account for SOARIS. Please follow the instructions on how to .

After the Examination

Exam scores are usually released 90 days after the test date. When the scores are released applicants will have 17 calendar days to appeal their experience score. Applicants can also request an answer sheet review. Please visit the section of our website for periodic updates and information pertaining to the release of exam scores and eligible list establishment.

Once the civil service eligible list is established by the Human Resources Division (HRD) and the Department of Correction (DOC) is preparing to fill vacancies, if your score is reached, you will receive a notice/postcard in the mail informing you of the date(s) that you should come to the DOC's HR office to sign the certification list. You can also view this notice/postcard contact information in your HRD Civil Service exam standings (MaCS, formerly SOARIS) account by selecting menu choice 3 - Applicant Issued Certifications.

Signing the certification list as willing to accept let's DOC know that you are interested in being considered for appointment to a position. You will then go through DOC's hiring process. Please refer to DOC's Correction Officer I  Recruit FAQ for more information.
