Instructions for the the Open Competitive Employment Or Experience Credit Information Sheet.
For experience credit eligible applicants with prior employment or experience as a Correctional Program Officer A/B:
1. Complete claim form AND bring the completed form along with required supporting documentation to the exam site on exam day.
2. Submit the completed form with required supporting documentation within 7 calendar days (May 26, 2012) by certified mail, with return receipt requested to the Human Resources Division, Civil Service Unit, One Ashburton Place, Room 301, Boston, MA 02108. Documents postmarked after May 26, 2012 will not be reviewed by this office.
Important Exam Site Notification Information for ApplicantsNotices to Appear for this examination will be mailed the week of May 7, 2012, which will include your assigned examination site. You will be able to get a copy of your notice on , May 9, 2012, by logging into the Human Resources Division Standings and On-line Applicant Record Information System (SOARIS). You will need to register as a first-time user if you have not already created an account for SOARIS. Please follow the instructions on how to Get a Copy of Your Notice to Appear for an Exam .
After the Examination
Exam scores are usually released 90 days after the test date. When the scores are released applicants will have 17 calendar days to appeal their experience score. Applicants can also request an answer sheet review. Please visit the Civil Service News & Updates section of our website for periodic updates and information pertaining to the release of exam scores and eligible list establishment.
Once the civil service eligible list is established by the Human Resources Division (HRD) and the Department of Correction (DOC) is preparing to fill vacancies, if your score is reached, you will receive a notice/postcard in the mail informing you of the date(s) that you should come to the DOC's HR office to sign the certification list. You can also view this notice/postcard contact information in your HRD Civil Service exam standings (SOARIS) account by selecting menu choice 3 - Applicant Issued Certifications.
Signing the certification list as willing to accept let's DOC know that you are interested in being considered for appointment to a position. You will then go through DOC's hiring process. Please refer to DOC's Correction Officer I Recruit FAQ for more information.
