ADA Compliance Efforts
David D'Arcangelo, Director
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that "entities" of state and local government designate ADA Coordinators to oversee efforts to comply with the law and to handle disability based discrimination complaints. The Massachusetts Office on Disability (MOD) is the ADA Coordinating Agency for the Executive Branch of State Government.
- Among other things MOD maintains lists of both the State Agency ADA Coordinator List and the Municipal ADA Coordinator List .
- MOD also maintains The Disability Handbook for Executive Branch Entities file size 18MB PDF version file size 4MB . The guidance in the Handbook is intended to help agencies meet their obligations to citizens with disabilities. Also available for assistance in dealing with state employee issues related to disability are guidelines issued by the Office of Diversity and Equal Opportunity.
- MOD is part of a larger initiative working to make the Commonwealth a Model Employer.
- MOD is an active partner in the Universal Access Committee that has been established under Administration and Finance Administrative Bulletin 19.
