This project consolidated all of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts' (MCLA) science programs that prepare students to enter the research pipeline. Facilities at MCLA did not adequately foster the integrated, hands on discovery approach required under the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math workforce initiative (STEM).

This project involved the study, design and construction of a new Center for Science and Innovation at (MCLA).

The new building features include Biology/Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology teaching and research laboratories, as well as laboratory support spaces such as prep rooms, general storage, chemical storage, machine shop, animal holding areas, and a greenhouse. General purpose teaching spaces, informal study spaces such as a café and interdisciplinary spaces such as laboratories for non-majors and K-12 educators in Berkshire County are featured in this project as well .

Project Features:

  • Roof Garden and outdoor classroom
  • Green House
  • Photovoltaics
  • LEED silver rated or better
  • Heat Wheels to recover energy
  • Micro Wind Turbine
  • LEED silver rated or higher
