The purpose of this project is to create a state regional fire training facility in Springfield to serve the western part of the state and to alleviate the training load at the central training academy located in Stow, MA. The project's goal is to provide a training area with classrooms, offices, male and female lockers, staff and student turn out gear storage, facilities areas with a mini-crib room, maintenance shops, a fire house and storage areas, fire safety lab with offices and ground storage space, emergency equipment response storage and expanded parking.
- Existing 6.56 acres site located at 100 Grochmal St. in Springfield, MA and already serving as a fire training facility for the city of Springfield.
- 3 main buildings on site: a Burn Building, a Ladder Tower and an Administration Building.
- The Burn and Ladder Tower Buildings to remain unchanged. The Administration Building to be expanded or rebuilt to meet DFS standards.
- A feasibility study to determine suitability of site has been completed.
