The Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM) sold 32 acres of former Worcester State Hospital farmland for $1,060,000 to Worcester Business Development Corporation (WBDC) and transferred 180 acres of prime agricultural soils to Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) in February 2010.

The acquisition by of 32 acres of former Worcester State Hospital farmland on Plantation Street in the city of Worcester from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources (MDAR) for $1,060,000 and transfer of 180 acres of prime agricultural soils to MDAR in the towns of Agawam, Lakeville and Middleborough was completed early in February 2010.

WBDC sold a portion of the parcel to the University of Massachusetts Building Authority and the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMBA and UMMS) for the construction of a 1,650 space parking garage to support the UMMS Campus existing and future parking needs. The WBDC has retained the right for the future development of a total of approximately 100,000 SF of biotech research and 62,000 SF office/research space with 180 surface parking spaces to be located on the remaining portion the 32 acre parcel.
