In December 2014, DCAMM transferred to the Town of Medflied the former Medfield State Hospital as part of a sales partnership strategy. The Town is currently engaged in a planning process which is scheduled to be complete by the Summer of 2017.
The sale partnership model is an innovative approach to the Commonwealth’s sale of large surplus state-owned properties to the cities and towns where the properties are located. This strategy provides local governments with control through the zoning process over any future redevelopment while eliminating the Commonwealth’s on-going maintenance and security costs and providing for a carried interest in the properties. This strategy insures that the Commonwealth and its taxpayers realize up to a fifty percent share of any future net profits resulting from the sale and/or lease of all or portions of these properties for redevelopment.
