State personnel are encouraged to submit requests for books and journal articles not found in the State Library's collection. Items usually arrive in about two days, but can take up to as much as two weeks. Loan periods depend on the lending library.
Materials ready for pickup are held in room 442 of the State Library, and should be returned there at the end of the loan period. Patrons will be notified by email when their materials are ready for pickup. Book renewals are permitted at the discretion of the lending library. All renewal requests should be submitted to the State Library three days before the item's due date.
All borrowers must hold a valid State Library card and are subject to replacement fees from the lending library for damaged or lost volumes. Interns may submit loan requests on behalf of project supervisors; a written statement from the supervisor must be presented in order to authorize loan activity.
Please note the interlibrary loan program is devoted to supporting research programs in state government. We do not supply non-work related loan requests for personal reading or continuing education courses--please inquire at your local public library about acquiring these through its interlibrary loan service. Personnel who need on-site access to local academic libraries for their projects may be issued a Boston Library Consortium card. Interested persons should contact the Reference Department.
