By land, sea, and air, public transportation systems keep the Commonwealth moving. The Office of the State Auditor conducts regular audits of administrative transportation agencies such as the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the Registry of Motor Vehicles, as well as quasi-public agencies like Massport, the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority (MBTA), and many more regional transit authorities. Audits of transportation entities often review use of federal stimulus funds, contract oversight, equipment management, and financial systems.
