Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Board

The Low-Level Radioactive Waste Management Board ensures that low-level radioactive waste is managed in a manner that does not threaten public health, safety, or the environment. The Board oversees and plans for the storage, packaging, treatment, transportation, and disposal, where applicable, of all low-level radioactive waste generated in Massachusetts. The Board arranges agreements with other states for the storage and disposal, outside of the Commonwealth, of low-level radioactive waste generated by over 500 radioactive materials licensees, including universities, hospitals, biotechnology firms, and utilities.
