COMMONWEALTH TEACHING CENTERS
7020-0011   For grants to be administered by the department of education to establish two commonwealth teaching centers at public or private colleges to model the preparation of new teachers; provided, that each teaching center will establish a charter school to serve as a year-round laboratory to instruct prospective teachers; provided further, that the colleges establishing said teaching centers shall demonstrate high performance on the Massachusetts educator certification test of their students as part of the grant application; provided further, that each center must require high academic standards for participation, promote fluency in foreign languages for prospective teachers, and promote literacy in technology for prospective teachers; provided further, that each charter school created for the purposes of this item shall offer Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System acceleration programs during the summer for students not enrolled in the 12-month program; and provided further, that charter schools created for the purposes of this item shall not be counted toward the charter school limit as established in subsection (I) of section 89 of chapter 71 of the General Laws 800,000

TEACHER INDUCTION MENTORING PROGRAM
7020-0012   For an induction and mentor program for new teachers; provided, that the department of education shall establish a process and criteria for school districts to receive disbursements of amounts appropriated herein; provided further, that school districts participating in said program shall assign one mentor teacher for every four new teachers hired in a school year; provided further, that $500,000 of the amount appropriated herein may be used by said department for mentor training programs and new teacher seminars; provided further, that each participating mentor teacher shall receive a stipend of $1,200 and 30 professional development points for each year as a mentor; provided further, that each school district shall receive $1,000 for each participating mentor teacher to defray the costs of mentor and new teacher release time; and provided further, that said mentor and new teacher release time shall allow said mentors and new teachers to participate in observation and co-teaching activities 2,500,000

ONE-TIME CHAPTER 70 SUPPLEMENTAL RESERVE

NON-EDUCATIONAL COST OF RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL PROGRAMS
