Executive Office of Public Safety Criminal History Systems Board
The Criminal History Systems Board serves as the
focal point of law enforcement and criminal justice informational
services. Through its operation of the Criminal Justice Information
System, the Board develops and maintains the infrastructure to
ensure the timely exchange of critical information to state and
local public safety authorities. The Board also provides state
and local public safety agencies access to its extensive databases,
which contain criminal record and crime reporting information
such as Sex Offender Registry classifications. The Board offers
training and customer support services through its field services
unit and oversees the implementation of the Criminal Offender
Record Information (CORI) statute.
Objectives
The Board will hire additional staff to classify
and manage records of sex offenders residing in cities and towns
throughout the state.
Budget Recommendations
The Fiscal Year 1998 budget recommendation includes
an additional $225,471 for the Sex Offender Registry, and an additional
$300,000 for a new retained revenue account, which will enable
the Criminal Offender Record Information Unit to upgrade its informational
technology capabilities to meet the Unit's increased demand for
criminal justice informational services. Budgetary Direct Appropriations
