Outside Section 25
Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, in hospital fiscal year 2009, the office of the inspector general may continue to expend funds from the Health Safety Net Trust Fund for the costs associated with maintaining a pool audit unit within the office. The unit shall continue to oversee and examine the practices in all hospitals in the commonwealth including, but not limited to, the care of the uninsured and the resulting free care charges. The inspector general shall submit a report to the house and senate committees on ways and means on the results of the audits and any other completed analyses not later than March 1, 2009. For the purposes of these audits, allowable free care services shall be defined pursuant to chapter 118G of the General Laws and any regulations adopted under that chapter.
This section allows the Inspector General's Office to continue its auditing work for the Health Safety Net Trust Fund with the $1.96 million remaining in this trust fund.
