On Sept 21, 2010, representatives from The Brien Center, Berkshire Medical Center, Berkshire Health Systems, Elder Services of Berkshire County and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Pharmacy joined District Attorney David F. Capeless and state and local police to announce the County’s participation and partnership with the Drug Enforcement Agency in its nationwide prescription drug takeback program to be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

On Monday, May 3, 2010, the Commonwealth joined 42 other states in the nation which have anti-bullying laws in place to protect students from the threat of harassment and bullying. The long-awaited Massachusetts anti-bullying law requires schools to create and implement prevention plans to prevent, identify and respond to bullying.

Despite the unanimous position of the Commonwealth’s District Attorneys, Attorney General, Sheriffs, Governor, and the Berkshire County legislative delegation opposing the passage of Question 2, voters overwhelmingly approved the initiative petition that appeared on the November 2008 ballot. The initiative, entitled “An Act Establishing A Sensible State Marihuana Policy,” makes the possession of one ounce or less of marijuana punishable only by civil penalties and forfeiture of the contraband. District Attorney David F. Capeless, together with the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association and other law enforcement agencies, has identified a number of issues that raise serious questions regarding the implementation of this Act.
