Gomes sentenced to state prison on a mayhem charge

A Pittsfield man, found guilty Friday, was sentenced this morning in Berkshire Superior Court.  The Jury deliberated for about 3 and a half hours before returning its verdict against 26 year old JEREMY D. GOMES. 

GOMES was found guilty on one (1) count of MAYHEM, one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY BY MEANS OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON and one (1) count of BREAKING AND ENTERING A MOTOR VEHICLE IN THE NIGHTTIME WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELONY.  Judge John Agostini ordered that he serve an 8 to 12 year sentence at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction on the MAYHEM charge.  GOMES was given a concurrent 7 to 10 year state prison sentence on the charge of ASSAULT AND BATTERY BY MEANS OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON and will serve a concurrent 3 to 5 year state prison sentence on the BREAKING AND ENTERING A MOTOR VEHICLE IN THE NIGHTTIME WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELONY charge.         

The incident occurred in Pittsfield on September 10, 2011 and involved a 19 year old man. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
