Shartrand enters not guilty pleas in Superior Court

A Pittsfield man was arraigned this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court on several charges.  46 year old PAUL W. SHARTRAND (118 Elizabeth Street) appeared before Judge John Agostini

SHARTRAND had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on one (1) count of ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO COMMIT RAPE, one (1) count of CARETAKER ABUSE ON A DISABLED PERSON and one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY ON A DISABLED PERSON.  Judge Agostini released him on $5,000 bail on the condition he remain at home except to attend church, medical appointments, court dates  and Attorney’s visits.  SHARTRAND must also have no unsupervised contact with children under 16 or persons with disabilities.

It is alleged that SHARTRAND, while employed at the Laurel Lake Center for Health and Rehabilitation in Lee, assaulted a 55 year old female patient.  The incident is alleged to have occurred on August 12, 2012. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Lee Police Department.
