Woman dies in Pittsfield fire

A Pittsfield woman has died in an early morning fire on Orchard Street.

Investigators say 59 year old CLAUDETTE ROBERTS (91 Orchard Street) died as a result of the fire.  At 4:16 a.m. the Pittsfield Fire Department received 911 calls reporting a fire at the Orchard Street address.  ROBERTS was discovered, deceased, inside the first floor apartment.  Her body will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston where an autopsy will be performed, likely on Monday.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation but, at this time, investigators do not suspect foul play.

The investigation is being conducted by the Office of the Fire Marshal, the Pittsfield Fire and Police Departments and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
