Autopsy results confirm North Adams woman victim of a homicide

The preliminary results of an autopsy on an elderly North Adams woman indicate she was the victim of a homicide.  Specific details of the autopsy are being withheld at this time, pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation.      

The autopsy was performed today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, in Boston, by Associate Medical Examiner Dr. Anna McDonald.  84 year old ELLEN DEPAOLI’S body was found inside her Walker Street home Tuesday evening.

Berkshire District Attorney David F. Capeless stated, “This is a very active, ongoing police investigation.  Anytime one or our citizens, particularly one of our seniors, is killed, there is cause for concern along with grief.  However, based upon the information that investigators have developed, we consider this to be an isolated incident and North Adams residents should not be unduly alarmed.”  

The investigation is being conducted by the North Adams Police Department, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, Officers from the Pittsfield Police Department and Deputies from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Department, members of the Berkshire County Law Enforcement Task Force.
