Harris pleads guilty, sent to state prison

A Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this morning in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges.  25 year old WALTER HARRIS appeared before Judge John Agostini. 

HARRIS pleaded guilty to one (1) count of POSSESSION OF COCAINE WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY, one (1) count of ILLEGAL OWNERSHIP OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN, one (1) count of IMPROPER STORAGE OF A FIREARM and one (1) count of POSSESSION OF COUNTERFEIT BILLS.  Judge Agostini ordered that he serve a 3 and a half to 5 year state sentence at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction on the charge of POSSESSION OF COCAINE WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE.  HARRIS was placed on 1 year probation on the POSSESSION OF A FIREARM DURING THE COMMISSION OF A FELONY charge and given concurrent house of correction sentences on the other charges.     

The charges stem from the execution of a search warrant at his home on September 26, 2012.

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department and state troopers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
