Lowenstein enters not guilty pleas on drug and firearm charges
An Amherst man was arraigned this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court on drug and firearm charges. 22 year old DANIEL B. LOWENSTEIN (6 Tamarack Drive) appeared before Judge Daniel Ford.
LOWENSTEIN had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on one (1) count of POSSESSION OF A SAWED-OFF SHOTGUN, one (1) count of ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION WITHOUT A FIREARM IDENTIFICATION CARD, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF A FIREARM WITH A DEFACED SERIAL NUMBER, three (3) counts of DISTRIBUTION OF MARIJUANA, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE and one (1) count of OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS. Judge Ford released him on $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety bail.
It is alleged that LOWENSTEIN sold marijuana to an undercover police officer in Great Barrington on February 23, 2013, March 2, 2013 and March 9, 2013. It is also alleged he was in possession of marijuana with intent to sell the drug in Great Barrington on March 9, 2013. The other charges are also alleged to have occurred in Great Barrington on March 9, 2013.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Great Barrington and Sheffield Police Departments, members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
