Mensah is found guilty, sentenced to jail and placed on probation

A Pittsfield man was found guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court on several charges.  The jury deliberated for about 4 hours before returning its verdict against 48 year old FRANCIS DANIEL MENSAH. 

MENSAH was found guilty on one (1) count of AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND BATTERY, one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY and one (1) count of VIOLATION OF AN ABUSE PREVENTION ORDER.  Judge C. Jeffrey Kinder ordered that he serve 1 year of a 2 year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction.  MENSAH was also placed on 2 years probation on the condition he have no contract with the victim during the probationary period.   

The incidents occurred in Pittsfield and involved a 28 year old woman between October 1, 2011 and December 22, 2011. 

Prior to the start of the defendant’s case Judge Kinder ordered that directed findings of not guilty be entered on one (1) count of ASSAULT AND BATTERY and one (1) count of RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT OF A CHILD in connection with charges involving an 8 year old girl.             

MENSAH was found not guilty on one (1) count of RAPE and one (1) count of INTIMIDATION OF A WITNESS OR OTHER PERSON. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
