Rivera sent to state prison on firearm and drug charges
A Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges. 36 year old JASON RIVERA appeared before Judge C. Jeffrey Kinder.
RIVERA pleaded guilty to one (1) count of POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA WITH INTENT TO DISTRIBUTE, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF COCAINE (2nd offense), one (1) count of POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN WITH PRIOR CONVICTIONS FOR VIOLENT CRIMES OR SERIOUS DRUG OFFENSES, one (1) count of ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN, one (1) count of POSSESSION OF AMMUNITION WITHOUT A FIREARM IDENTIFICATION CARD and one (1) count of IMPROPER STORAGE OF A FIREARM. Judge Kinder ordered that he serve a 3 to 3 and a half year state prison sentence on the charge of POSSESSION OF A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN WITH PRIOR CONVICTIONS FOR VIOLENT CRIME OR SERIOUS DRUG OFFENSES. RIVERA was given concurrent jail time on the other offenses. He will begin serving his sentence on June 11th.
The charges stem from the execution of a search warrant at 72 Lenox Avenue on September 13, 2012.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department, deputies from the Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office and state troopers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
