Smith sent to state prison for 25 to 30 years
A Dalton man who was found guilty on January 18th was sentenced this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court. The jury deliberated for about 2 hours before returning its verdict against 35 year old ROBERT F. SMITH.
SMITH was found guilty on five (5) counts of RAPE AND ABUSE OF A CHILD: NO FORCE, three (3) counts of RAPE AND ABUSE OF A CHILD AGGRAVATED BY AN AGE DIFFERENCE, one (1) count of INDUCING A MINOR TO ENGAGE IN SEXUAL INTERCOURSE and two (2) counts of DISSEMINATION OF OBSCENE MATTER TO A MINOR. Judge Ford ordered that he serve concurrent 25 to 30 year state prison sentences at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction.
The incidents involved a girl who is now 17 years of age and a boy who is now 14 years old and occurred in Richmond between January 1, 2004 and June 10, 2010.
The investigation was conducted by state police detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office.
