Van Zandt pleads guilty, sent to jail and placed on probation

A Lee man pleaded guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges.  30 year old SCOTT A. VAN ZANDT appeared before Judge C. Jeffrey Kinder. 

VAN ZANDT pleaded guilty to one (1) count of BREAKING AND ENTERING A BUILDING IN THE DAYTIME WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELONY and one (1) count of LARCENY OVER $250.  Judge Kinder ordered that he serve a 2 year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the charge of BREAKING AND ENTERING A BUILDING IN THE DAYTIME WITH INTENT TO COMMIT A FELONY.  VAN ZANDT was placed on 2 years probation on the other charge on the condition he remain drug free, undergo drug testing and complete a drug treatment program during the probationary period.             

VAN ZANDT broke into a building in Lee and took approximately $75,000.  The incident occurred between July 1, 2011 and July 19, 2011.     

One (1) count of LARCENY FROM A BUILDING was dismissed at the request of the Commonwealth. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Lee Police Department.
