Race pleads guilty, sent to jail
A Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this morning in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges. 30 year old SHAUN M. RACE appeared before Judge John Agostini.
RACE pleaded guilty to had not guilty pleas entered on his behalf on one (1) count of MOTOR VEHICLE HOMICIDE WHILE OPERATING TO ENDANGER and one (1) count of OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE WITH A SUSPENDED LICENSE. Judge Agostini ordered that he serve a 1 year sentence at the Berkshire County House of Correction on the charge of MOTOR VEHICLE HOMICIDE WHILE OPERATING TO ENDANGER. RACE was given a concurrent 10 day jail sentence on the other charge. He also lost his license for 15 years.
RACE was the operator of a motor vehicle involved in a single vehicle accident in Lee on May 12, 2012. The accident claimed the life of 30 year old Mayra Demedeiros. The couple’s 1 month old baby was not injured in the crash.
One (1) count of OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS and one (1) count of CHILD ENDANGERMENT WHILE OPERATING UNDER THE INFLUENCE were dismissed at the request of the Commonwealth.
The investigation was conducted by members of the Lee Police Department.
