Sparrow pleads guilty, sent to state prison

A Pittsfield man pleaded guilty this afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court to several charges.  24 year old ANSEL SPARROW a/k/a YAMEAN appeared before Judge John Agostini. 

SPARROW pleaded guilty to one (1) count of ARMED ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO ROB, two (2) counts of ASSAULT AND BATTERY BY MEANS OF A DANGEROUS WEAPON and one (1) count of CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT ARMED ROBBERY WHILE MASKED.  Judge Agostini ordered that he serve an 8 to 11 year state prison sentence to the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction on the charge of ARMED ASSAULT WITH INTENT TO ROB.  SPARROW was given concurrent 8 to 10 year prison sentences on the other charges. 

SPARROW assaulted and attempted to rob a 26 year old man and 22 year old woman in Pittsfield on October 2, 2012. 

One (1) count of ARMED HOME INVASION was dismissed at the request of the Commonwealth. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.
