Upholding the rights of victims of crime is a high priority, and the Victim Assistance Program is a vital part of the District Attorney's Office. Victim Assistance Advocates ensure that crime victims, their family members and witnesses are fully informed of their rights as mandated by Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 258B - The Victim Bill of Rights.
Advocates are located in each District Court, Juvenile Court, and Superior Court. Advocates are teamed with Assistant District Attorneys assigned to prosecute the case, providing updated information on the case, the court process and procedures for victims, their families and witnesses. Victimization on any level can have a difficult physical, emotional, and financial impact on victims and their families. Advocates offer a variety of assistance, support and advocacy throughout the court process, including victim notification, court accompaniment, crisis intervention services, and referrals for counseling, social services and victim compensation.
