Bureau Work Permit Stipulations

BUREAU CONTRACTOR WORK PERMIT STIPULATIONS

All work performed under the contractor work permit must comply with all Massachusetts Building Codes.

All necessary mechanical and electrical permits must be issued by the Department of Public Safety (727-3200).

All approved construction shall be performed in a professional manner using only first class materials. Quality control is the responsibility of the applicant and is subject to review and inspection by BSB. The applicant shall redo or replace at its own expense any work not approved by BSB due to material or workmanship.

All work is to be performed in a manner that will cause a minimum of inconvenience to the facility's employees and the public.

Parking is not available.

Hours

Weekdays--7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Weekends--By request and written approval only
Prior notice of contractor employees working in the building after hours is required.

Equipment

No storage of equipment, tools, or materials in common areas. All equipment, tools and materials must be stored within the agency.
All equipment and materials to be on the site prior to loading dock closing at 4:00 p.m.
No after hour loading dock or freight elevator usage.

Cleaning

There should be no accumulation of debris in or about the work site.
All cleaning in construction area to be done by contractor.
All construction debris to be removed from building by contractor.
Construction debris to be removed by hamper by contractor during dock hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by prior notification for dock use.

Public Address System

All existing P.A. speakers are to remain in common areas. If relocated, BSB must be informed and the agency must have a contractor reinstall.

Carpeting

Installation of all carpeting is to be scheduled during off-hours to insure adequate ventilation. The agency must coordinate the installation with the Bureau.
All loose vinyl composite floor tiles are to be boxed and turned into the Building Manager's Office each day. No loose floor tiles are to be stored in office areas.
Contractor is responsible to remove all old carpeting from the building.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Any modifications or changes to the HVAC systems serving office areas and affecting thermostats, controls, variable air box zones, air flow and overall indoor office air quality must be performed to maintain comfort levels in the newly renovated office areas.
HVAC modifications must be approved by the Bureau prior to commencement of work.
The Bureau requires that any modifications to the building HVAC system be performed by a Division of Capital Asset Management (formerly DCPO) certified HVAC contractor. All HVAC modifications must have written approval by the Bureau before commencement of work. These services would be billable to the agency requesting the work.

Electrical/Wiring

All power interruptions, must be coordinated with the Bureau and require prior notification to the Bureau.
All obsolete wiring must be removed from floor ducts by the electrical/telecommunications contractor.
All coring for electrical or telecommunications through vinyl composite tile, carpeting, and the floor deck must be done during off-hours via wet drilling only.
It is the responsibility of the agency submitting the permit to contact the Bureau's Engineering Department to insure that adequate power is available for the renovation. In the event that the agency's project power requirements are greater than presently available on the floor, their electrical contractor will be required to supply and install all necessary equipment, including transformers. Partitions are not to be installed over light fixtures.
No light fixtures to be moved or reduced in size without prior approval.
Wiring for electrical, telecommunications, or computer above the ceiling is prohibited.
No wall receptacles, floor receptacles only.
All cored holes must have approved penetration fittings for pest control.

Sprinkler System

Changes in office space may require additional sprinkler heads to meet fire codes.
Specifications to the sprinkler system must be made by a licensed sprinkler company and coordinated with the Bureau.
