DCAM AWARDS IN EXCELLENCE 2008

state house domeInvitation to DCAM's Awards in Excellence Ceremony on April 16, 2008 in the Great Hall at the State House

One of DCAM's objectives is to promote excellence in public design and construction. To advance this objective, the agency established an awards program in 1984. The Awards in Excellence Program reinforces our commitment to providing outstanding service to the citizens of the Commonwealth by recognizing the projects, designers, and contractors that have achieved the highest professional standards in the planning, design, and construction of our state building projects. Eligible for consideration for the 2008 Awards in Excellence were projects completed or studies certified after January, 1993.

Projects were judged in terms of their quality of design and technical excellence, demonstration of quality construction, innovation in devising creative solutions to meet client's specific needs, contribution to the physical, historical and cultural context of the project's location, maximization of re-use of existing facilities to preserve resources and continuity, maximization of the use of renewable energy resources, integration of accessibility issues as a component of the overall design, and the extent to which the project can serve as a model for future projects.

The diversified pool of nominated projects made identifying the categories and the award winners a challenging task. The range and quality of submissions confirmed the tremendous ability of the design and construction professionals involved in these projects. A primary focus of the selection committee was acknowledging the architectural strengths and the professional execution of the construction process. Other important considerations included the incorporation of significant aspects of the DCAM mission and values including meeting the needs of the user agency, environmentally responsible design and universal design. Ultimately, DCAM selected projects founded on good programming, excellent design and cost-effective construction while creatively solving unique design challenges.

An Awards Ceremony will be held in the Great Hall of the State House on April 16, 2008, where DCAM Commissioner David Perini will present certificates to the winning individuals and teams.
