Health And Wellness Center, Bunker Hill Community College
Designer - DiNisco Design Partnership
Contractor - Daniel O'Connell's Sons
Project Type: CM at Risk
Project Cost: $22.8 Million
Gross Square Feet: 49,000
Est. Substantial Completion Date: November 2009
This project, now in design, consists of a new two-story Health and Wellness Center with utilities and an elevator connected to Building E. Bunker Hill Community College, a poured-in-place concrete structure designed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson and Abbot Architects, was originally proposed to be built in two phases to accommodate a total of 5,000 full-time students and 6,000 part-time students. Phase I was completed in 1973 with a total of 370,000 gross square feet for 2,500 full-time students. Currently, over fifty percent more than the original capacity are enrolled at BHCC, with a similar trend in the enrollment of part-time students. A student center and athletic facility were not built as part of the first phase, and pedagogical changes have increased the need for student support services that were not required at the time of the earlier construction.
