NEW FALL RIVER TRIAL COURT

The new courthouse will provide space for the Bristol County Superior Court criminal sessions and Fall River District Court, supplementing facilities at the former Durfee School already upgraded for the other Fall River court departments.

SALEM TRIAL COURT/J. MICHAEL RUANE JUDICIAL CENTER

Planning for the new Salem Trial Court Complex involves:

  • Consolidation of five court departments into two adjacent buildings
  • Design and construction of a new state-of-the-art judicial facility for Salem and Southern Essex County
  • Renovation of the historic Salem Probate and Family Court/ Registry of Deeds Building
  • The Salem Superior Court and County Commissioners Building will be vacated and available for redevelopment, as will the Salem District Court

NEW TAUNTON TRIAL COURT

The study for the new Taunton Trial Court was completed in June 2007, and the design phase is now under way. Leers Weinzapfel will continue as the designer and Daniel O'Connell's Sons has been hired as the construction manager. The new courthouse will contain:

  • Eight courtrooms serving the District Court, Juvenile Court, Housing Court, and Probate & Family Court.
  • Siting and design of the new facility in close proximity to the existing Superior Court building.

NEW LOWELL TRIAL COURT

The study is now under way for a new Lowell Trial Court to be located in the Hamilton Canal District near the Gallagher Train Station. The building will be a comprehensive justice center containing sixteen courtrooms serving the Superior Court, District Court, Juvenile Court, Housing Court, and Probate & Family Court. The building will include:

  • 16 new courtrooms and secure parking
  • Law Library

NEW DOWNTOWN WORCESTER TRIAL COURT

The new Worcester Trial Court on Main Street in downtown Worcester was completed during Summer 2007 and was officially dedicated on October 16, 2007.  The new building is the first Comprehensive Justice Center to include all five of the trial court departments—Superior, District, Juvenile, Housing, and Probate and Family court – and is the largest court facility constructed by the State.  The co-location of all of the court department serves to improve the efficiency of the court process by promoting the use of shared facilities, and providing twenty-six courtrooms to expedite the courts business. The building includes the following spaces:

  • 26 Courtroooms
  • Superior, District, Juvenile, Housing Court and Probate and Family Court Transaction Offices and more.
  • Jury Pool, Central Detention Area, District Attorney’s Office, Grand Jury Hearing Room
  • Support Services (i.e., CASA, MOVA, DSS, DYS, DOR, Court Clinics, Drop-off Child Care)

NEW PLYMOUTH TRIAL COURT

The recently completed Plymouth Trial Court is a state-of-the-art facility containing Superior, District, Juvenile, Housing and Probate & Family court departments. The facility also contains a Law Library, space for a day care center, and jury pool accommodations. The five court departments have relocated from three separate existing, outdated facilities in downtown Plymouth, providing improved conditions and capacity for future growth in this fast-growing region of the state. The new location on Obery Street near Rt. 24 will provide easy access by automobile and through bus service and is convemiently located next to the recently completed Plymouth County Registry of Deeds. The co-location of all five court departments will improve the efficiency of the court process by promoting the use of shared facilities and services.
