Phase II expansion of the Firefighting Academy in Stow, now in design, includes a new administration building (33,978 s.f.) for MFA and DFS office functions; a new training fire station (31,430 s.f.); a new warehouse(15,274 s.f.); and a renovation and expansion of the existing academy building by 11,000 sf to accommodate training and maintenance needs and to create an assembly area for graduation and conferences. Site improvements include new roadways and walkways, additional parking spaces, a new water line to a connection in Sudbury, and an on-site wastewater disposal system. The project is a phased construction project involving demolition of existing buildings and the construction of new structures.

Features
- LEED certified at gold level.
- Will house approximately 175 personnel, most of whom are already on site, by replacing a number of temporary trailers and modular buildings with proper facilities.
- Will use less energy than the present building, in spite of being 150% larger.
- Will use less water for domestic purposes than is presently used, thanks to water saving fixtures and use of graywater for non-potable purposes.
- Approximately 7% energy derived from solar energy.
