Arthur Souza Plea
District Attorney Michael O’Keefe announced that Arthur Souza (DOB 11/15/1959) plead guilty on November 28, 2012 in Barnstable Superior Court to four counts of Larceny of Library Materials over $250 and two counts of Larceny of Library Materials under $250.
Judge Robert Rufo sentenced Mr. Souza to two years in the Barnstable House of Correction with five years probation. The probation will begin after the committed sentence.
Mr. Souza was stopped after causing a disturbance at the Brooks Free Library in Harwich. Mr. Souza was found in his possession of reference materials that were not for circulation. The investigation revealed that the defendant was stealing rare and historical materials and selling them for profit. Some of the reference materials were one of a kind books that are irreplaceable. Local and State Police Departments participated in the investigation which revealed books were stolen from six Cape Libraries.
