July 4th Sagamore Bridge Accident
District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced today that on Friday morning, July 12th, State Police Detectives from the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office spoke with a witness to the accident which occurred on July 4th on the Sagamore Bridge. That witness’s information was inconsistent with previous eyewitness information, which is not unusual in accident investigations. This recent witness’s statement however was consistent with an examination of the GMC pickup which crossed into the oncoming lane and impacted with a van heading west-bound, killing Amanon Bogomolsky of Isreal.
That examination conducted by the State Police accident reconstruction team revealed no evidence of a rear or side impact which would have caused the vehicle to be pushed into the oncoming lane. The operator of the GMC pickup, Michael Furlong, has since died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
