For Immediate Release - February 13, 2014

District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced today that Rescue and Police personnel responded to 320 Winslow Grey Road, Yarmouth in regards to a 23 month old male child found unresponsive in its crib.  Despite rescue efforts the 23 month old was pronounced dead at Cape Cod Hospital on the morning of Thursday, February 13, 2014.

The child had a number of pre-existing medical conditions.  The social history of the child included Department of Children and Family involvement at birth because of the substance abuse issues of both parents.  The child was being cared for by a couple and was being seen by a Cape based Social Service entity which dealt with delayed developmental progress.  The most recent visit was February 10, 2014 and the child was reported to be “well”.  The child was also being seen by another agency dealing with emotional issues.

Preliminary investigation did not disclose any significant trauma to the child.

The matter remains under investigation by members of the State Police Detectives assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office, Yarmouth Police and the Office of the Medical Examiner.  The Department of Children and Family has been notified.
