Justin L. Emerald Press Release
District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced today that on May 9, 2014, Justin L. Emerald (DOB: 09/18/1982) was sentenced in Barnstable Superior Court after pleading guilty on February 25, 2014, to Unarmed Burglary, ten counts of Breaking and Entering Nightime, five counts of Breaking and Entering Daytime, nine counts of Larceny, Attempt to Commit a Crime and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
Judge Christopher J. Muse sentenced Emerald to four to five years committed in State Prison on the Unarmed Burglary charge. Muse sentenced Emerald to probation for seven years, the probation to run from and after his State Prison sentence, on all the remaining charges.
The charges stem from a series of business and residential breaking and enterings in Dennis and Harwich, Massachusetts. The incidents occurred between October 27, 2012, and January 17, 2013. On January 17, 2013, the police arrested Emerald just after he had entered and stolen from a local business. During the arrest, the police secured a pry bar from Emerald’s belongings. The pry bar possessed a unique tip. The police compared the pry bar tip to pry bar marks secured from crime scenes of several unsolved breaking and enterings to connect Emerald to those crimes. The police used stolen property found at Emerald’s residence to connect Emerald to other breaking and enterings.
The case was investigated by the Dennis Police Department, the Harwich Police Department and the Bureau of Criminal Investigations of the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Department.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Edward F.X. Lynch.
