William B. Putnam IV conviction

District Attorney Michael O'Keefe announced today that William B. Putnam IV, 51 Service Road, East Sandwich, 09/14/1995, was found guilty by a Barnstable District Court jury of Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation. The verdict was reached today after a 1 day trial. The Honorable Judge Joan E. Lynch sentenced Putnam to a 1 year House of Correction sentence which will be suspended for a probationary period of 4 years.  In addition, Putnam is required to complete 500 hours of community service and will receive a statutory 15 year license revocation.
The charge related to an incident that occurred in Barnstable on November 30, 2012 at the intersection of Route 132 North and the Route 6 East on-ramp. The jury found that Putnam failed to stop at a red light causing a collision with a second car and the subsequent death of the passenger in the other automobile.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Michelle L. Groff and was investigated by the Massachusetts State Police.
